Starting out
For first-timers
Do I need to be fit before I start?
No. Classes are scaled to where you’re at, and fitness is something training builds — not a ticket you need at the door. Go at your own pace in your first sessions; nobody is keeping score.
Do I need any experience?
None at all. The Fundamentals classes assume zero knowledge — stance, guard and basic strikes are coached from the very beginning. Experienced practitioners are just as welcome in all-levels classes.
What do I wear and bring to my first class?
Shorts or tights and a t-shirt you can move in, a water bottle, and a towel if you like. We train barefoot. If you have gloves and wraps bring them; if you don’t, mention it when you book and we’ll sort you out for the first class.
Is the first class really free?
Yes — one full class, free, no card details and no obligation. Book it online or message @jameshoney on Instagram.
How early should I arrive?
A few minutes early is perfect — enough time to meet James, see the gym and get your hands wrapped if needed.
Training
About the classes
Will I have to spar?
No. Nobody spars on their first day — or any day they don’t want to. Sparring is a separate conversation with James for people who want it, when they’re ready for it. Classes themselves are pads, drills and conditioning.
Is Muay Thai safe for beginners?
Training is coached and controlled, and contact is scaled to experience. You’ll learn technique on pads and bags long before anything resembling a hard exchange. As with any sport, minor bumps and bruises happen — that’s honest — but beginners are looked after.
Who coaches the classes?
James “Sweet As” Honey — the reigning WMO middleweight world champion and WMC middleweight champion — with 6+ years of coaching in gyms. Read more about him on the James page.
Are there kids or women-only classes?
Not yet — both are planned for later. Register your interest and you’ll be first to know when they launch.
When are classes on?
The opening timetable is being finalised right now. Follow @jameshoney on Instagram or check the timetable page — it’ll be published there first.

Money questions
How much does it cost after the free class?
Casual class $20, three classes a week $40 per week, or unlimited training $55 per week. Personal training with James is $60 (30 min), $80 (45 min) or $100 (60 min). Full details on the pricing page.
Is there a lock-in contract?
Membership and cancellation terms are being finalised alongside the timetable, and they’ll be published on the pricing page before anyone commits to anything. No surprises.
Can I do one-on-one PT instead of classes?
Yes — James takes personal training sessions in 30, 45 and 60-minute blocks. Send an enquiry or message us on Instagram to arrange a time.
